epiTUNES: What inspired you to write the song Orange Chinese Car?
Marco: I'm not sure. As far as the title and the first two lines in the song: I read about Chinese car makers in a magazine some weeks before I came up with the song. There's just tons of stuff in stores now, mostly the large chain stores, that was made in China. It's a topic I like to think and talk about. The huge trade deficit we have these days and the consequences that has on our daily lives. But the song is pretty much abstract. It's not song about our trade deficit. I came up with it on a nice afternoon. It's very much an improve song. Made it up. Recorded it. Finished.
e: What’s the most personal song you’ve ever written and what was it based on?
Marco: A song I wrote about me and my wife, our relationship. I recorded it but I never released it in any way because I just felt it was too specific and therefore nobody else's business.
e: If you’re life was a song, what song would it be?
Marco: "I Walk The Line" by Johnny Cash maybe. Or all of my songs in a row.
e: Have you read any great books lately?
Marco: No. I used to read tons of books but for some reason I haven't for a long time now. I read newspapers, magazines, blogs, online stuff.
e: What was the first album you ever bought?
Marco: Probably Jean Michel Jarre or Oscar Brand or Cool and the Gang. One of their records. Those were the people I listened to when I got old enough to buy records. Similar mix of music as what I listen to now. Folk, electronic, hiphop, I didn't quite catch onto indie-rock yet back then, early indie-rock I guess, like maybe Sonic Youth or whoever that would be.
e: What gets you up in the morning?
Marco: My four year old son. Usually he's either making up beautiful, sweet songs or he's about to break my ribs by jumping all over the bed.
e: Do you support any charities?
Marco: Not right now.
e: Do you read any online music magazines, if so, which ones?
Marco: I stumble through random music blogs.
e: Have you played any great live shows lately?
Marco: I haven't played any shows in a while. First I was busy getting this new album together and right now I'm busy getting it out there but playing shows will be next on the list.
e: What’s your favorite iPod track this week?
Marco: Ben Folds cover of Postal Service's "Such Great Heights"
