My answer to 9/11 conspiracy buffoons
A mass conpiracy on the part of the US Goverment or some unseen cabal to attack then cover up ...
Not logical.
Conspiracies are around us all the time -- people conspire to do all sorts of things -- government officials conspire to twist and hide the truth. Nixon conspired to make himself undefeatable. Stalin conspired to rid the Soviet Union of his perceived enemies. The Warren Commission conspired to put together a palatable though shoddy explanation of the Kennedy assassination. The US Government conspired against Japanese-Americans in WW2. Sacco and Vanzetti, the Rosenbergs, McCarthyism ... yeah, the US Government is capable of conspiracy.
Governments do evil things to stay in power.
But government aren't run by a secret cabal behind the scenes that holds together all the untethered parts that don't add up. To assume this government -- noted for its ineptness -- is capable of orchestrating and then keeping secret a plan for mass coordinated attack of its own citizens is the acumen of paranoid delusion.
And it is not as if there is no other reasonable explanation.
Again -- militant Islamic jihadists has the mean, motive and opportunity. They later claimed responsibility. They had a history of such attacks. They had made the World Trade Center a target in the past.
When questioning the details of what exactly happened on 9/11 don't lose sight of obvious facts. Planes loaded with fuel were hijacked by 19 Middle-Eastern terrorists, several of whom took flying lessons. Those planes were diverted. Three of the planes were flown into buildings. Thousands of people died. The Executive branch of the Government had been warned of the possibility of such an event. The targets were supposed to be aware and prepared for such an event. The FAA, CIA, NSA, FBI are basically the Keystone Cops and couldn't catch a one armed thief with a twitch locked in a phone booth.
None of that ads up to "SECRET CONSPIRACY".
It looks like bumbling and then a long long list of excuses followed by serious undermining of the Constitution.
But you make the leap and assume there was some will, some unseen hand that holds all this together.
Where?
If it was the Republican Party or an agent acting on behalf of the Republican Party, whey did they lose the Legislature? If their intention was a coup, why is it failing? If their intention was not a coup, what was their intention? If their motive was an overthrow of the US Government, then why don't they hold all the reigns of power after their coup? This is an administration that can't hold itself together, why does their secret power elude them now?
Did they have the opportunity? This included the opportunity to plan such an event with the cooperation of thousands of workers in all branches of federal, state and local governments.
Did they have the means? The means not only to commit the crimes but the means to then silence all co-conspirators.
If the did have the means, motive and opportunity, who is holding it all together? Dubya? He's an idiot! He can't hold his attention. He apparently can't hold his party or administration together.
So it must be some unseen agent.
If we are that open to conjecture, why not Bigfoot?
If we are going to question everything, can you say for certain that Bigfoot was not secretly running a plot to overthrow the Government.
Do you have ABSOLUTE PROOF that it was not a sasquatch?
If not, then I'm not convinced.
You see, reasonable people are also capable of deductive logic. I am not blinded by passion. I am not deluded by an inability to think critically. I just happen to believe in the Second Law of Thermodynamics -- entropy increases. And, to me, it is far less likely that an overly elaborate plan with secrets and unseen forces is needed to explain what can be much more easily understood as an act of terror followed by ineptness and a grab for greater power to cover that ineptness.
And while you are looking for the secret conspiracy behind all the events that lead up to, culminated in and followed from the acts of terror on 9/11. You are ignoring the real ineptness and obvious problems.
A broken "intelligence" system.
Blatant failures of international policy.
Failure of the Fourth Estate to remain unbiased.
Abdication of a democracy to the bureaucracy of three fat and stupid tiers of government.
A total lack of diminution of the threat of future mass attacks.
Those are hard problems. You are side-stepping the hard problems that are real and immediate to chase unseen ghosts in a faulty machine based on general paranoia rather than a real sense of logic and urgency to fix what can and should be fixed.
1) Stop the war in Iraq.
2) Catch Osama Bin Laden.
3) Repair the international fiasco caused by unilateral war mongering.
4) Impeach the President.
5) Tell Congress to follow the will of the people or they will find themselves looking for another job.
6) Remind the media to be impartial or Rupert Murdoch will find himself strapped in a guillotine (literally if needs be).
7) Make government transparent and accountable.
You conspiracy theorists are so deluded by the romance of the unsolvable case of the missing sacred cow that you have forgotten there is no milk.
Its your choice, we can work together to FIX THE PROBLEMS or we can chase unseen conspirators in game of existential cat and mouse that will never end so long as one paranoid nutjob sits on his ass and churns out ridiculous theories.
