The Red Hearts

The Red Hearts are a rock 'n' roll four piece from Los Angeles, CA, known for their catchy/punky songs and thier wild shows. Formed by Lenny Pops (Morlocks, ex-Brian Jonestown Massacre) in 2004, the Red Hearts also consist of Danny, Dan Collins, and Eric Tretbar. There first single "More and Faster" was release in November 2006 and is available through Mean Buzz Records (www.meanbuzzrecords.com) and the Red Hearts myspace (www.myspace.com/theredhearts), and is limited to 1000 copies.

Lenny Pops formed the band in 2004; Pops was influenced primarily by late '70s punk and power pop, especially artists like Elvis Costello and the Buzzcocks. He formed the band as a three-piece with an all girl rhythm section. The band gigged around Southern California and gained praise from many sources, including Indie 103.1 and Mean Buzz Records. After the departure of the girls right before the release of their debut single, Pops decided to continue on the band and expand it to an all male four-piece. The new lineup debuted in September 2006 with the Original Richie (Richard Cardenas; ex-Plastic Letters) on drums, Danny (Daniel Clodfelter; ex-The Goodboys) on bass, and Dan Collins (The Shakes, Sugar Frosted Light Blubs) on Farfisa organ. Richie left the band in November 2006 to travel the world as the drummer of the Portland, OR based Clorox Girls; he was replaced by Eric Tretbar, who was the drummer for the legendary Minneapolis garage band the Funseekers.

The Red Hearts are going strong and gaining enormous postive exposure. In the last few months the band has shared the stage with the Black Lips, Gravy Train!!!!, Mika Miko, the Pink Spiders, Lords of Altamonts, the Love Me Nots, and are gaining a large and loyal following.

Time Warp to the Late 70s

Posted by toren on Oct 29th, 2007
Listening to songs like "Pirate Radio" and "More and Faster" feels like a time warp to the late 70's and the brilliance of Elvis Costello and the Jam. If you close your eyes you would swear a three headed monster of Costello, Paul Weller, and Stiv Bators were trying to channel their way through lead singer Lenny Pops vocal chords. This is definitely a band making noise in all the right ways.
