MxPx“Panic was an album that definitely had its own personality and these are their siblings that didn’t quite fit in,� explains vocalist/bassist Mike Herrera of his band’s newest collection, Let’s Rock, due October 24, 2006 on SideOneDummy Records.While Herrera might be modest about his, err, musical babies, the 12 songs found on Let’s Rock are in no way throwback tracks. Consisting of mostly unreleased and rare material (some stretch back to the 2000 Ever Passing Moment recording sessions), the songs run the gamut from acoustic demos to fully-polished punk-pop anthems. Aside from "You Walk, I Run" and "Make Up Your Mind,� which were previously released on the Broken Bones 7-inch, these songs are seeing the light of day for the first time. “You Walk, I Run,� is also stripped down to its acoustic essentials for a reprise that rounds out the collection. “A lot of the songs on Let’s Rock are ones that didn’t work at the time we originally recorded them but that we still liked,� Herrera says. “For Panic, we wanted it to be as cohesive as possible, something that sounds like us live. However, some of the songs on Let’s Rock are slower and more ballad-like, which isn’t much like our live show.� Ultimately, Herrera, guitarist Tom Wisniewski and drummer Yuri Ruley have assorted a collection of material sure to please both hardcore fans and newbies alike. While most of the tracks were recorded in the band’s Bremerton, Wash. studio, they were honed on the road this past summer while on tour with ska-punkers Reel Big Fish. When not on stage, MxPx were singing harmonies into their portable studio or doing overdubs while driving from city to city. Since releasing their debut album, Pokinatcha, more than a decade ago, when the trio was still in high school, MxPx has been a staple in the pop-punk world. In their 14 years, the band has released seven full-lengths, a live album, a slew of seven-inches and EPs, and the aptly-titled career retrospective, Ten Years and Running. Their third LP, Life In General, was recently touted by Alternative Press magazine as one of the top 10 punk albums of 1996. www.mxpx.com |
