Julie Moffitt

Julie Moffitt's intimate, musical memoirs expressed through piano, guitar and her warm voice touch on feelings of uncertainty, isolation and mislocation. Her songs range in spirit from melancholy to optimistic, but are always reflective and honest. Moffitt grew up playing the piano, spending hours alone with her sheet music after school, her early influences ranging from Andrew Lloyd Weber to Journey. As she played and sang her way through school concerts, competitions and theatrical productions, hers became a well recognized name in a small Midwestern town. With 6 years of classical vocal training and 8 years of children's theater behind her, she escaped to Los Angeles and the University of Southern California. Digging deeply into jazz, blues and classic rock, Moffitt spent her college years falling in love with John Coltrane and Bill Evans, breaking hearts and finding her own heart broken once too often. Between the endless stretches of desert highway and the rolling Pacific, she committed it all to the haunting lyrics and melodies that imbue her work. In 2005, Moffitt's self released album everything I never asked for (recorded with Mike Hoffmann - The Verve Pipe, Willy Porter) found its way to Burst Records Creative Director Daniel Holter in July. By August, Moffitt had signed on as a Burst artist. Moffitt's Burst Records debut, The Stolen EP, enlists the talents of giants Dave Marotta (bass), John Ferraro (drums) and Chris Mosher (keys). Moffitt has been featured on radio programs including WLZR's Local Licks and NPR/WUWM's At 10. She has also appeared on the WTMJ-TV news, and recently journeyed back to Los Angeles to headline the Chick Singer Night Anniversary Show at Tangier. March 2006 marked Moffitt's first appearance at SXSW. June 2006 saw her on the road with Martha Berner and Arrica Rose as part of the national Hit & Run Tour, including stops at venues such as Denver's Walnut Room, San Francisco's Rickshaw Stop, Nashville's 3rd and Lindsley, and Albuquerque's Hyperactive Music Festival.
