Growing up together in New York forged a bond between these musicians that is evident in their lock-tight pockets and seemingly telepathic stage interactions. From their roots in the East coast neo-soul and hip-hop communities, these friends have forged a signature sound that is steeped in vitality and celebration.

Excellent Gentlemen plays danceable, vocal soul r&b music. Think '70s block parties and the foundations of golden-age hip-hop records. Their music stands for positivity, love, happiness and getting sexy; this is definitely NOT the drudgery of mediocre Indie-Rock. Their adopted home of Portland, OR has welcomed with open arms the injection of real live dance party music played by real live musicians. On the strength of their incredible live show, the independently-run band has ignited an adoring fan base and has become the hot touring funk act in the Pacific Northwest. Their debut album JUST SAY YES is on sale now at CD Baby.

Praise for the album JUST SAY YES

-------------

If you’re a fan of smooth R ’n’ B, you won’t want to miss out on the lovely tunes created by the Excellent Gentlemen. Fans of Liv Warfield’s suave, sophisticated music will instantly fall under the Gentlemen's spell; it’s a slick, booty-shaking take on modern music that will have you shaking your proverbial money maker. -Portland Tribune

[FUNKY GOOD TIME] There's an element of pastiche to the Excellent Gentlemen, who don't so much recreate an era of R&B/funk history as pick and choose their favorite elements from throughout the decades. Brand new album Just Say Yes makes no sonic bones about that fact—even the strategically worn-looking album cover looks lost in time. The album's introduction features a spoken word rap over an early '70s funk-jazz instrumental, while talkbox-heavy tracks like "Freaky" and "Get Down, Baby" make use of production techniques generally associated with the '80s and early '90s. But from Parliament to D'Angelo, it's clear that the Excellent Gentlemen know their funk and soul histories. So even if the EGs occasionally come across as more Anthony Keidis or Jamiroquai than the group likely intends, genuinely soulful tracks like "You Gotta Believe" prove the band's heart to be in the right place. One would be hard-pressed to find a better produced contemporary Portland R&B album than Just Say Yes, and it's refreshing to hear a group take on funky R&B in a way that's both self-aware and totally sincere. -Willamette Week

Just listened to your new album, or should I say "sonically jerked off to it," and it's f**kin hot. -Q&E Boyz
